Hi PT Families —
We are so excited to see your kids this summer (finishing kindergarten-finishing 5th grade)! We have worked hard to make sure we keep one another safe and also maximize learning and fun.
In Baltimore, kids will take part in our afternoon virtual reading circles led by college students. They will connect with other kids and take work on literacy skills while being encouraged by adult leaders. On Tuesdays, families can pick up books and grocery boxes from John Wesley United Methodist Church from 3:30-5:30. Virtual Reading Circles start June 21st and Books and Groceries start June 22nd. The registration link is below.
In DC, this year we will be utilizing the “pod model”, where our participants are in groups (pods) of 8-10 kids and 2 interns for the entire summer. They will be split up based on family, geography, etc, to help limit contact. We will be providing breakfast and lunch each day.
Camp runs Monday-Thursday from Monday, June 21st to Thursday, August 5th. Camp will be closed Monday, July 5th.
From 9 – 12 each day, kids will be at camp in-person. At noon, children will take their lunch home and read with volunteers on Zoom for the final hour.
Here’s what a typical day might look like:
9:00 am: Sign-in + Opening Activity
9:15 – 9:45 am: Breakfast + Opening Circles
9:45-11:50: Camp Activities
11:50 – 12 pm: Closing Circles
12:00: Lunch + Pick Up
1:30-2:30 Virtual Reading Buddies (kids will read with volunteers on Zoom)
Bad Weather: Morning session will also be virtual and food pick up will be at 9:15 and 12:00.
If a positive Covid-19 case occurs, the pod with the case will transition to on-line virtual programming. Project Transformation is following all local and federal guidelines for mitigation of spread. We ask you to be patient with us as we make sure to keep your child safe.
Registration Fee: $25/child with a maximum of $50/family can be paid by check or money order to Project Transformation DC. You can mail it to Project Transformation DC, 25 53rd St NE, Washington, DC 20019.
