One Year Fellowship
Through our year-round program, Project Transformation connects the service of our full-time fellows with the development of marginalized children and their communities. Fellows serve 1700 hours under the supervision of Project Transformation’s Director of Programming.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United States. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age or have completed one year of college.
Competitive applicants for the One-Year Fellowship Program will:
- be highly motivated, self-starters
- possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- enjoy working with children and/or youth
- be open-minded
- have a desire to love and serve others
- be dedicated to living in community with other young adults in a structured environment
There are five primary components to Project Transformation’s one-year program:
Enrichment Programs
During the school year, fellows plan and lead after-school programs for elementary children. Daily activities include homework assistance, physical recreation activities, and rotational weekly lessons which may include nutrition education, creative arts, Bible lessons, etc. As part of this, fellows plan and implement program activities following required component design, act as a facilitator/leader to a team of other interns assigned to their program site, and oversee site food program.
During the summer program, Project Transformation fellows serve on teams of 6-8 to plan and implement eight-week summer day camps, Monday through Thursday, for 60 to 70 elementary school-age children. Sites are located in churches in the heart of low-income communities. Components of the program include: a one-on-one reading program, Bible lesson, arts and crafts, music, recreational activities, and other activities in which the gifts and talents of the interns can be shared with the children.
Community Development
Fellows develop the resources needed to provide monthly community events (Family Fun Nights). Outside of the afterschool program hours, fellows build relationships with children and families by visiting the parents and teachers of participants.
Throughout their term of service, fellows assess community needs and develop a year-long project to sustainably meet a community need. In this way, fellows work to connect families with neighborhood resources, and local churches with neighborhood needs.
Leadership Development
Fellows receive weekly coaching from Project Transformation staff, while participating in ongoing training and weekly leadership courses focused on growing in character, competence, and contribution.
Ministry Exploration and Spiritual Development
Project Transformation values the spiritual development of each intern and offers intentional time and space for interns to grow their understanding of both needs and opportunities for ministry. The program emphasizes the importance of community through worship, Bible study, and guest speakers. The fellows participate in weekly worship or Bible study as well as brief morning devotions each day before traveling to program sites. Fellows are encouraged to examine their personal beliefs through intellectual and spiritual discussions.
During the summer, fellows are exposed to various vocational opportunities in service or ministry through guest speakers, field trips, and interactions with lay and ordained church leaders.
Church Involvement
Each week, fellows participate in worship at their site church with their team. This is an opportunity to connect the church family to the program and its families so that sustainable relationships are established throughout the year. Beyond this, fellows connect partner churches with the program by recruiting volunteers, collecting supplies for the program, and sharing stories of their experience.
Specifics
The dates for this one-year fellowship are May 27, 2016 – May 7, 2017.
- Fellows will live in community in housing provided by Project Transformation Tennessee. During the school year, dinners will be provided once per week. During the summer, dinners will be provided Sunday through Thursday evenings.
- During their summer of service, fellows cannot have commitments outside of Project Transformation, such as summer school or a part-time job.
- Each weekend, Project Transformation fellows attend their site church worship to connect with the host congregation and the community.
The time investment will be great, but the potential for personal rewards are even greater. While much is expected of each intern, much is given in return in the form of love from the children, support and fun from living in a community, and the energy created by exploring your own personal potential to impact the world around you.
Compensation
$11,500 living stipend + housing + travel allowance
