Reading Coordinator

Summary

The Reading Coordinator implements Project Transformation’s Bookworms Program for independent readers through the engagement of volunteers and the Reading Rockstars Program for beginning and emerging readers through the implementation of hands-on literacy activities.

Essential Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities of the Summer Staff, Reading Coordinators will:

  1. Facilitates the experience of all reading volunteers serving at Project Transformation sites by:
    • Welcoming them to the site
    • Train them for service
    • Serves as their point of contact during Book Worms/Reading Rock Star time, responds to any needs or concerns
    • Upholds the Safe Practice Policy for Volunteers
    • Debriefs their experience
    • Thank them through written notes and kind words
  2. Responsible for ensuring reading assessments are completed for all participants by:
    • Preparing for and welcoming reading assessor volunteers
    • Administering assessments for children who were not assessed by volunteers
    • Tracking reading assessment data and submitting it on time
  3. Implements Afternoon Literacy component as outlined in PT Curriculum
  4. Accountable to weekly deadlines including data entry and thank you notes
  5. Attends weekly meetings

Details

Compensation: $3,800 + housing + most meals

Dates: May 23, 2025 – July 25, 2025

 

Qualifications

Competitive applicants:

  • have a passion for literacy
  • possess organizational skills
  • are comfortable with public speaking
  • have experience in working with multi-generational groups
  • are comfortable with leading and teaching children
  • embody willingness to problem solve for success of children and volunteers
